Description

The Ferrari 250 GTE was not only the most stylish, comfortable, and luxurious four-passenger Car of its time, but its commercial success may be the reason the Ferrari name lives on today. True to its competition roots, the 250 GTE was revealed at the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans in the hands of the course marshal before its official Paris Salon debut that October.Beneath the models elegant Pininfarina bodywork was a chassis much like that of the 250 GT LWB Tour de France. To provide space for rear seats, the 240-horsepower, 3.0-liter Colombo V-12 was moved eight inches forward and the rear sloping roofline raised slightly. The drivetrain was completed with a four-speed manual transmission, with overdrive. Ultimately, 954 250 GTEs spanning three Series were delivered over a four-year production run. In addition to cosmetic changes, Series III cars benefited from the addition of coils to the leaf spring rear suspension.This stunning example has been owned by a local collector for over 20 years and has been meticulously maintained and mechanically prepared to the highest standard, in preparation for sale.Supplied with the sale are a collection of receipts dating back to the late 1990s which also reflect a full cosmetic restoration and repaint in the current exterior color of Black, removal and refinish of the instrument panel, window panels, steering column, dashboard and rear parcel shelf in March 2002. Complementing the Black exterior is a beautifully refinished Light Tan leather, sourced from Connolly Leather. All of these receipts are available to review, upon request. Also included is the original, full color marketing brochure which prospective clients received back in the early-1960s.Whilst not verified by a Massini Report and an independent inspection, it is widely believed that the engine, transmission and differential are original to this Serial Number and vehicle.From the condition of the exterior, including the presentation of the exterior chrome and original Borrani wire wheels through the interior presentation and mechanical usability, this stunning example of Ferraris first true four-passenger vehicle is of the highest quality and will sit as a stunning center piece in any collection.
