"Great deals, great service, great people."
-Bert Boeckmann, Owner and Employee Since 1953
The Volvo Overseas Delivery Program lets you buy your new Volvo through Galpin Volvo, fly to Gothenburg, Sweden, and pick up your car at the source before touring Europe in it. When your trip ends, Volvo handles shipping and importation, and your car arrives back home ready for you to enjoy in the Los Angeles area. It is one vehicle, purchased once, delivered with a European road trip built in.

What the Volvo Overseas Delivery Program actually is

Most people buy a Volvo and drive it off the lot. Overseas delivery flips that script. You order an eligible new Volvo through your retailer, then collect it in person in Sweden, the country where Volvo was founded. You drive your own car through Europe on the trip of a lifetime, and when you are ready to come home, Volvo arranges the ocean transport, customs handling, and final delivery back to Galpin Volvo in the greater Los Angeles area.

Think of it as two experiences bundled into one purchase: a European vacation with your new car as the centerpiece, and a brand new Volvo waiting for you back in Southern California when the memories are made. It is a program built for people who see a car as more than transportation.

Which Volvo models qualify

This is the first thing to check, because the program does not cover the entire lineup. For the 2026 model year, Overseas Delivery is available on pre-built stock inventory of the XC60, the XC60 plug-in hybrid, the XC90, and the XC90 plug-in hybrid. The XC40 is available as a 2026 custom order, excluding the fully electric version.

Looking further out, the 2027 model year adds the same XC60 and XC90 options plus the EX60, though EX60 deliveries are not expected before November 2026.

If the vehicle you have in mind is not on that list, a straightforward purchase from our new Volvo inventory is the simpler route.

What Volvo includes

The program is more comprehensive than most people expect. Volvo provides:

How the process works, step by step

  1. Choose and order your Volvo. Work with the Galpin Volvo team to select an eligible model. An upfront, non-refundable initial fee of $6,000 is required when the order is placed, and it is applied to the final cost of the vehicle.
  2. Plan your trip. Volvo suggests placing your order roughly four months before your desired delivery date. Their travel partner, ADTRAV Vacations, contacts you within 30 days of your signed order documents to begin planning.
  3. Collect your car in Gothenburg. You take delivery at World of Volvo, where a delivery specialist walks you through your new vehicle. When the factory is operating, a tour may be available, though it is never guaranteed.
  4. Drive Europe. The car is yours to enjoy across the continent. You must take delivery in Gothenburg, but you can drop off at other approved locations and fly home from a different city.
  5. Drop off and ship home. Volvo manages transport and importation back to the United States. Dropping off in Gothenburg carries no additional shipping charge; other approved locations incur a transfer fee, and the US destination charge applies either way.
  6. Take final delivery at Galpin Volvo. Your Volvo arrives back at our North Hills location, and final payment is due at that point.

The World of Volvo experience and the road trip

Gothenburg is where the Volvo design and engineering story is told, and picking up your car there turns an ordinary purchase into something memorable. World of Volvo houses a rotating exhibition of iconic vehicles and interactive experiences, plus a lounge where you wait for your delivery, and Ceno, the on-site restaurant where delivery-day lunch is served.

From Sweden, the roads of Europe open up. Some owners head south toward the Alps, some trace the coastlines, and some build an itinerary around cities and cuisine. However you plan it, you are exploring with a brand new Volvo underneath you, which is a very different feeling from a rental. One practical note: if you are traveling between December 1 and March 31, Sweden requires winter tires in wintry conditions, and World of Volvo can arrange a rental or purchase set.

Is Volvo Overseas Delivery a good fit for you?

This program rewards a certain kind of buyer. It tends to make the most sense if you:

Financing and everyday ownership back home

One important detail before you plan: leasing is not available through Overseas Delivery. Financing through Volvo Car Financial Services is, and you can also purchase the vehicle outright. Our finance team can walk you through the options for your build.

Worth knowing on pricing: Overseas Delivery purchases receive preferred pricing off MSRP, and the program cannot be combined with national or local incentives, so it is a different math than a standard purchase. If you have a current vehicle, you can value your trade before you commit.

After your Volvo comes home, it receives the same care as any Volvo we sell. Our service center keeps it running the way it should for years of Los Angeles driving, and you can schedule service online whenever it is due.

Why start with Galpin Volvo

Overseas delivery has a lot of moving parts across two continents, and having an experienced dealer coordinating the details makes the difference between a smooth experience and a stressful one. Galpin Volvo guides the ordering, timing, and final delivery so the process stays clear from the day you decide to the day you drive home.
