This stunning example has received an extensive, frame-off restoration between 2016 and 2023 and is supplied with all restoration receipts totaling over $160,000 invested. It is also worth noting that included, original factory documentation shows that this is an engine and transmission matching numbers vehicle. All paperwork is included with the sale and available to view in PDF format, by request. The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is a Two-door luxury roadster produced by Mercedes-Benz between May 1955 and February 1963. Internally referred to as W121, it was first shown in prototype at the 1954 New York Auto Show.The 190 SL presented an attractive, more affordable alternative to the exclusive Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, sharing its basic styling, engineering, detailing, and fully independent suspension. Both cars had double wishbones in front and swing axles at the rear. Instead of the 300 SL’s expensive purpose-built tubular spaceframe, the 190 SL’s structure used a shortened unitary floorpan modified from the W121 base saloon.The 190 SL is powered by a slightly oversquare 104 hp, 1.9L straight-four SOHC engine which is mated to a fully-synchronous 4-speed manual transmission. Based on the 300 SL’s straight six, it proved to be more of a boulevard cruiser than outright sports Car with a 105mph top speed and a 0-60mph time of 14 seconds!The exterior has been refinished in a “”Nitrolack”” (Nitrocellulose Lacquer) finished in the non-metallic paint color of White (Weiss) DB-050. Many classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles of this period used Nitrocellulose lacquer (indicated on factory data plates as “”Nitrolack””). This type of paint is known for having a deep, rich, and high-gloss finish.
